Driven by the steady recovery in demand for technology services, the Indian IT industry is expected to employ about 2.5 lakh people during this period, software body NASSCOM representative said Friday.
The top four players are expected to hire more than 1 lakh people this year. The industry as a whole should add about a quarter of a million people this year, Nasscom president Som Mittal said in New Delhi, according to a PTI report.
Pent-up demand for services after the recession and the return of discretionary spending in the market are the main drivers, Mittal added.
the country's largest exporter of software company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the annual meeting of the results announcement, said it expects to hire about 60,000 people in FY12. Scam-hit Sathyam, which has since been renamed as Tech Mahindra Mahindra Satyam then took the plans to recruit over 18,000 people this fiscal.
According to staffing firm Team Lease Services, the general sentiment is bullish in the recruitment of IT and ITES sectors. "The intention of hiring in the IT and ITES was higher in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune," he said.
For the year 2011-12, the estimates of industry body, the Indian IT-BPO sector grew by 19 per cent in 2010-11 to 76 billion dollars in revenue. "The market is optimistic, but in the Middle East and the crisis in Japan, the issue of debt, what are the macroeconomic variables and add to uncertainty. Economies are growing, but companies remain cautious "said Mittal.
